Materials:

• Vase
• Clear Water
• Food colouring
• White flowers

Instructions:

• Place clear water in a vase
• Choose a coloured food colouring
• Get white flowers for example roses or carnations. These flowers work the best.
• Explain to the children how the water is transported up the stem.
• Explain how the water is transparent so one can not see how the water is absorbed by the plant
• In order to see it really happen place food colouring into the water
• Place the flowers into the food colouring.
• Leave it for a few hours to a day and then re-look at the flower and see what happens
• The petals of the flower should turn the colour of the water
