Sinkers or Floaters
Place different object that can float and sink on the table.
For example: polystyrene chips, plastic straw, wooden stick, leaf, plastic packet, string, tissue, paper etc
Have a container that is transparent filled with water.
Hold up one item at a time.
Ask the children if they think the object will sink and float.
Place the object in the water and see what happens.
If it floats ask the children why?
The answer: The object has air inside and therefore floats to the top.
If it sinks ask the children why?
The answer: The air is filled up with water and therefore sinks to the bottom.
